The Marilyn Quilt Pattern

You probably don’t know this, but I spent many years working in the jewellery industry handling precious jewels and metals.  At first it was an after-school job, and then a gap year job, then a job to help me survive during university and then a job when I couldn’t find a job in what I studied at university.  It really did serve me well for many years, so it’s only fair that I dedicate at least one quilt design to it, right!?

I really wanted this quilt to look like strands of precious jewels set with sparkling diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and amethysts, and I think this pattern really shines in the larger sizes where that motif is visible.

What’s in the Marilyn Quilt Pattern

All Wife-made patterns have just undergone an update to coincide with my patterns now being available in paper format and wholesale through Creative Abundance.  (Read more about that here!)  If I do say so myself, they really are looking pretty faaaaaancy!  I’ll have to do a more in-depth post about that soon.

The Marilyn quilt pattern includes:

  • Fabric requirements and cutting instructions for seven projects from Baby to King size, and I really hope that one day a brave person will take the King-size challenge on!  Until that day, there’s a digital mock-up below of the Marilyn quilt in one of the larger sizes.
  • Detailed piecing instructions and full-colour illustrations to ensure that every step is clearly explained.

The pattern also includes all the reference numbers for the Robert Kaufman Kona solids I used to make the version below so you can make one just like it!  In case you’re interested now, here’s the list for you now!

Wife-made Marilyn Quilt Pattern

I whipped up another Marilyn quilt using leftovers from other projects.  I love it when I come up with a great colour palette using whatever is on hand.  Makes me feel so thrifty 😉

I also added something special to this quilt, by backing it with an old wool blanket I had in the cupboard.  It matched, so it was meant to be.  You can read more about that here and watch a video which gives you all my tips!

This version has a slight variation to it which I will hopefully write up in a blog post soon.
